Putin, Malaysian King Hold Talks After Victory Day Events in Moscow

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin held discussions on Saturday with Malaysian King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar in Moscow, following the country’s annual Victory Day commemorations.

According to reports, the talks took place after the military parade held on Red Square marking the anniversary of the Soviet Union’s victory in World War II, an event attended by several foreign leaders.

Putin described relations between Russia and Malaysia as steadily improving, stating that cooperation in trade and economic sectors continues to expand despite what he called “some adjustments” and a temporary decline in trade volume, which he expressed confidence could be overcome in the near future.

He also highlighted ongoing cooperation between the two countries within international frameworks such as the United Nations, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

Putin noted Malaysia’s current role as ASEAN chair and referenced previously discussed joint initiatives agreed during earlier meetings held in Tatarstan, Russia.

“I would like to thank you again and express hope that relations between our countries will continue to develop steadily,” he said.

The Victory Day celebrations in Moscow were attended by multiple international leaders, including the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Laos’ President Thongloun Sisoulith, alongside Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar.
